Just like the Product Information File for a cosmetic product, this is a structured collection of evidence that demonstrates that compliance has been achieved. As we’ve seen in our earlier articles, many of the details of ‘how’ to comply with requirements of the PPWR are yet to be decided and so the exact content of the technical dossier cannot be fully determined at this time (e.g. choice of assessments and methodologies).  However, as deadlines approach and more detail becomes available over aspects such as determining recyclability, this dossier will need to be populated and updated to document and demonstrate design choices, materials used, recyclability assessment, and other relevant test results.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>At the launch, we heard inspiring stories from the Seven Clean Seas team about their journey, which began with collecting plastic waste in Indonesia and is now expanding into Thailand.  Seven Clean Seas works with local ocean communities, empowering them with meaningful employment while creating lasting social and environmental impact. The communities they work with benefit from sustainable livelihoods, improved education, and better health. Plastic recovery really can go together with human impact! Seven Clean Seas are also strong advocates of circular design principles demonstrated by how they transform collected plastic waste into practical products such as coasters, roof tiles, and construction bricks. One example that really stood out to me was the replacement of old warehouse roofs, where they collected the plastic waste which contained asbestos. They replaced them with the very roof tiles made from the recycled plastic they collected. This closed-loop, circular economy solution is a powerful example of sustainability in action. It shows how plastic waste can be collected, recycled, and repurposed, all while providing social and economic benefits to local communities.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>My passion for cosmetics started at an early age. As a child, I was always fascinated by beauty products, the way they smelled, how they felt, and how they worked. This curiosity led me to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Cosmetic Science, and it felt like a perfect fit. However, I quickly realized that education alone wasn’t enough to prepare me for the industry. To gain practical experience, I sought out internship opportunities, which played a crucial role in helping me understand what I liked and what I didn’t. These experiences allowed me to develop hands-on skills and helped me figure out what I truly wanted to do. One of the key factors that helped me navigate the cosmetic science industry was networking, because as they say, ‘It’s not what you know, but who you know’. I made it a point to attend university networking events, even if they weren’t directly related to the cosmetics industry. I believe this decision turned out to be extremely beneficial. I met industry professionals, mentors, and peers who provided valuable guidance. The cosmetic industry is relatively small, and making connections can often lead to unexpected opportunities. You never know when someone you meet might help you land your next job or provide crucial career advice.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Articles - Why is the EU Cosmetics Regulation Being Reviewed?</image:title>
      <image:caption>The Cosmetics Regulation is now under review again. However, to understand this new revision fully, one needs to go back to the European Green Deal (EGD). The European Green Deal announced and published in December 2019 is probably the most significant horizontal policy initiative ever in the EU. It sets to transform the EU’s economy for a sustainable future and confirms the EU as a Global Leader. The EGD will generate a multitude of horizontal legislative and policy initiatives, bringing together multiple industry sectors under umbrella frameworks. As part of the EGD and its Zero pollution ambition, the EU Commission adopted the Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability (CSS) in October 2020. Amongst its 50 + measures, the CSS provided a trigger for the revision of REACh (Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals), the Classification Labelling Packaging (CLP) Regulation and the Cosmetics Products Regulation (CPR). And there we are, the upcoming revision of the CPR is a direct legislative consequence from the CSS.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>As more brands are starting to make such claims, it’s important that consumers understand what it means. ‘Waterless’ claims most likely refer to the finished formulation and mean that no water has been added or is included in the formula (e.g. from a raw material where water is a solvent). Brands need to take extra caution to not mislead the consumers and adhere to the six common criteria for claims, especially ‘truthfulness’. Meaning that, when a product is claiming ‘waterless’ it does not necessarily mean that no water is used at all, for example during the production process, harvesting and processing raw materials, cleaning machinery, consumer use etc. These claims should be qualified so it is clear the finished product and not the full process is waterless (e.g. formulated without water, reduced water use).</image:caption>
